Observing the growth of literature globally within digital culture, Dr Ainehi Edoro started brittlepaper.com to create global connections among readers of African literature while giving visibility to trends and innovation in African literary culture. 

The magazine features news about books and daily happenings in the African literary scene. It also helps cultivate talent and discover new voices through publishing original works by aspiring writers from various parts of the continent.

Brittle Paper'sgrant will be used to launch The Writing Room, a multi-faceted training program for aspiring and emerging writers. “This grant fulfils a long-held dream we’ve had to support early-career writers who need a little skill boost to get their work published in the right venues. It’s incredibly gratifying that we have this grant to launch an online learning platform where African writers can take creative writing courses for free,” said Dr Edoro.

“The Writing Room is a much-needed intervention in the African literary scene, where a mass of young creatives is taking up various kinds of literary expression. Offering free creative writing classes given by respected practitioners of the craft is an important step towards democratising literary talent and publishing opportunity. We hope to reduce the barrier of entry for aspiring writers on the continent who have a ton of passion and interest in writing but may not have access to prohibitively expensive creative writing training.”
