Gregory Goitseone Molale - Language of My Soul

Upington, South Africa - 2013. Fire burns Katriena Esau’s N/uu school. She calls it the day fire burnt the language of her soul. But the burning of her school is not the first time her language was silenced.

The silencing began with the erasure of her San heritage and culture when she was a child growing up in Apartheid South Africa. Language of My Soul is the story of how she overcomes fear and shame by speaking N/uu. At 88 years old, she is the only N/uu speaker left in the world. What will happen to her beloved language when she passes away?
