Sharon Makotsi - Journalists for Justice

Journalists For Justice is a not-for-profit foundation working to advance improved African journalistic capacity for social justice causes and public accountability through training and effective online platforms as well as social media engagement. They work in Kenya, Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire, Mali, The Gambia, Burundi, Uganda and the Central African Republic. We’ve partnered with them to curate an exhibition of cartoons that comment on the experiences of and reactions to international criminal justice interventions in Sudan, Libya, Uganda, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, and Chad. “ Cartoons are expected to spark debate and participation by tackling difficult subjects through humour in art and text, thus employing subliminal messaging to defuse public anxieties around taboos and silenced discourses. They often give voice to the silenced in their quest to be heard,” said Sharon Makotsi, Programme Associate at Journalists For Justice.
