Awaze Media was founded by Ethiopian radio personalities, Tigist Amare and Hawi Bussa, who were frustrated with the lack of representation in media. 

They created the platform to represent women and other marginalized African voices. “We wanted to create a spicy, fierce, bold and transparent platform that gave room for individuals to take back their voice and to tell their own stories; exactly the way they want to,” said Amare.
