Vumicentral is a multimedia content platform that provides African cinema, television, music, mobile video game, and entertainment news to global audiences. It was founded by Wilfred Kiumi of the Africa Digital Media Group. Vumicentral’s Organisational Support Grant will be used to keep building the platform and license content from across Africa. The grant will also support marketing and promotion activities for content creators whose work is featured on Vumicentral. “However, we have a high penetration of mobile internet usage across the continent which provides a great channel for content distribution. African content creators have what it takes to create authentic world-class content that is exportable beyond the continent. Africans are the original storytellers and they only need a platform to showcase their work as they grow their skills,” says Kiumi.
